Our teachers are super heroes!

Monday kicked off Teacher Appreciation Week and boy is this week one to celebrate!

A woman and two men stand outside in front of a large white tent. They are all wearing shirts that say Teachers are just super heroes in disguise. The men are each holding a handle to a large wicker basket.

For more than a year now, our teachers have devised innovative ways to teach our students who are sitting in front of them in the classroom as well as those who are learning remotely through a computer screen.

A woman with long dark hair and wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers t shirt and blue mask holds up her key chain that says Teaching is my super power.

They have been cheerleaders for students, parents and their colleagues. They have been encouraging when they themselves had to dig deep to stay positive. They have sacrificed and inspired.

A woman with long hair in a ponytail, wearing a blue shirt and gold cape watches as a man in a blue shirt looks at the gift she just gave him. It's a keychain that says Teaching is my super power. Looking on are two other men wearing shirts that say Teachers are just super heroes in disguise. All are wearing masks.

The district’s Executive Director of Human Resources, Data and School Counseling, Angela Wise-Landman, visited every teacher in the district last Wednesday and Thursday, to thank them for all they do for our students and our district. At each of the schools, she was accompanied by the building principal, assistant principal or both! On behalf of the administration, she gave each a token of appreciation – a key chain declaring “Teaching is my super power.” She even wore a gold cape to bring the point home! She spoke to the students, letting them know how special their teachers are. On many occasions, the students applauded in agreement!

A woman broadly smiles behind her striped mask and holds up her key chain, given as a gift. The key chain says Teaching is my super power. She has short dark hair and is wearing a brown, beige and orange striped shirt.

We all know how difficult things have been in so many aspects of our lives over the past 13 months. But our teachers have been there every step of the way: understanding, encouraging, inspiring, caring.

A woman sitting at a desk in a classroom reaches out her hand to take a key chain from a woman. The teacher at the desk is wearing a dark shirt and a facemask. The woman handing her the key chain is wearing a gold cape.

Our hats are off to our teachers. Know that we appreciate all that you do. You are making a huge impact. From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank you.
