PBE’s junior archeologists study Native American artifacts and mastodon bones

Third-grade students at Pine Bush Elementary became junior archeologists in the Library Media Center this week when they got the chance to study authentic Native American arrowheads, knives and scrapers.

An elementary school-age girl with short dark hair, wearing a pink bow and a patterned face mask, holds up an artifact. On the table is a piece of paper with a graph on it and a pencil on top of it.

They also got to study real mastodon bones, all of which were on loan from Museum Village.

Several elementary-age students sit at a table looking at artifacts. They are also writing down what they are observing.

This is part of the larger lesson about fossils they did with library media specialist Lisa Ruyack where they read about Mary Anning, the child fossil hunter from England back in the 1880s.

A group of elementary age ids are sitting at a table writing on paper.
