Voters pass $128.76 million school budget

Pine Bush Central School District voters approved the $128,759,335 budget for the 2022-2023 school year with 70.23 percent of voters supporting the district’s plan.

This budget included a 1.5 percent tax levy increase of $896,928.

“I am so grateful to the voters in our district,” said Interim Superintendent Donna Geidel. “Your support of our students and the district is exceptional. Our teachers, staff and administrators would not be able to do what we do every day without your amazing support.”

There were four candidates vying for four seats on the board of education. Three were for full, three-year terms and one was to complete an unexpired two-year term.

Incumbents Gretchen Meier and Dori Johnson, as well as Erik Buckley will serve the full three-year terms while incumbent Matthew Watkins will fill the two-year unexpired term.

Mrs. Geidel extended her congratulations to the four board candidates for stepping up to serve the community.

“Congratulations to Gretchen, Dori and Matt, who have all stepped up to continue to serve our school community,” said Mrs. Geidel. “Congratulations and welcome to Erik Buckley, our newest board member. We know all of you will do your very best for our students.”

This budget increases spending by $2,867,738 or 2.28 percent. State aid is increasing by almost $2.7 million and the district is using nearly $3 million in fund balance.

“Our board of education members and central administration have worked diligently to provide a budget that maintains the excellent educational programs provided here in Pine Bush while always considering the financial burden on taxpayers,” said Mrs. Geidel. “We believe we did that with this budget and are glad our voters agree.”
