Federal program may help families with internet bill

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) could save some residents $30 each month on home broadband expenses as well as provide a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer or tablet.A graphic showing two desktop computers and an antennae

The program is intended to help residents afford broadband connections for school and other services. All households with a child who is approved to receive free or reduced-price school meals under the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program are eligible for ACP benefits.

Reminder: Meals will not be free for all students in 2022-2023. We encourage you to apply for free or reduced-price meals at www.myschoolapps.com. The process is quick and confidential. Anyone needing help in applying may call the School Nutrition Department at 845-744-2031, ext. 2809 for assistance.

Households are also independently eligible if:

  • their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($55,500 for a family of four); or
  • a member of the household participates in certain other federal benefit programs—including, among others, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), Medicaid, and Federal Public Housing Assistance.

It is recommended that you check with your internet service provider directly for information on the ACP. Eligible customers receive a discount on their home internet service.

Residents may check eligibility, sign up, and find fully-covered plans at GetInternet.gov (mobile-accessible and available in Spanish) or by calling 877-384-2575.
