Stacie Blaut’s sixth-grade students at CVMS participated in the tower lab challenge recently. Their goal was to construct a free-standing tower using the least amount of index cards in order to hold a stuffed animal for 20 seconds.
The students used this lab to explore the Scientific Method. The groups used a variety of methods for construction (curved bases, wide bases, rectangular structures), and many were successful! Students worked collaboratively through this process to understand that scientists almost always revise their original hypothesis to be successful.
