PBE goes green for Kabuki Syndrome Awareness

The entire school district is celebrating Spirit Week this week and having a great time with it. While it was blue and gold day at most schools, Pine Bush Elementary students and staff were decked out in green for Kabuki Syndrome Awareness Day, which is on Sunday, Oct. 23. This cause is important to the PBE community because Ashlyn Cardone, a student in Sue Johnson’s kindergarten class, has Kabuki Syndrome.

Kabuki Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder. People with Kabuki may experience the following: mild to moderate intellectual impairment, growth delays, low muscle tone, feeding difficulties, heart defects, skeletal abnormalities, vision and hearing impairments, and/or communication delays and behaviors similar to people with autism.

Students at PBE learned about Kabuki and received a card with information about it to bring home. They also received a pin, which many wore on Friday to mark the day.

Ashlyn’s class celebrated her on Friday, all now having a better understanding of her uniqueness.
