Kind and caring words and actions make Unity Day a success at CVMS

Students at CVMS celebrated Unity Day by creating a beautiful mural made with their own personal messages about what makes them unique and what they will do to prevent bullying.

A girl with shoulder-length dark hair, wearing a red sweatshirt puts a round green piece of paper on a large poster.

Although it culminates in Unity Day, the students have been working on this for a while. CVMS counselors and social workers have been going into their classes to present about bully prevention, kindness and empathy.

The Unity Day mural is a free-hand drawing of the world, with continents drawn among the earth’s oceans. Each student could choose a green, blue and/or orange circle to write their thoughts. The green discs would be put on land and tell what makes them unique. The blue discs represented the water and students could write how they will unite with their peers to prevent bullying. The orange discs will go around the entire outside of the mural and tell why bullying prevention is important to them.

Students were eager to place their discs on the mural, coming together to make CVMS a kind and happy place to learn and share with their friends. Students could choose one, two or all three discs to add to the mural. They put much thought into their answers and are committed to making CVMS the best it can be.

When the mural is complete, it will hang at the entrance of the building, reminding all of their commitment to kindness and preventing bullying.
