The PBHS food pantry is now open! A bit earlier than expected but that’s a good thing this Thanksgiving week.
This space takes the place of the former PBE food pantry that was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Katie Carson-Decker, a social worker at Pine Bush High School, found space in the high school where she wanted to build a food pantry for the entire community. She knew there was a need. She found space and, with the expertise of Jim Licardi and his crew, they built the pantry in the high school.
A grant with the Regional Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, along with an incredible amount of food donations from the PBE PTA, Pine Bush High School, the Church of the Infant Savior, the town of Crawford and the Pine Bush Library, filled two freezers and pretty much the entire room with non-perishables!
So, Ms. Carson-Decker worked quickly with the building nurses and parent volunteers and created food boxes for 25 families in the community. Because there is still so much food being donated, she is looking for more families who may need some help before Thanksgiving. Anyone who wishes to receive a food basket should contact Ms. Carson-Decker at Kathryn.carson-decker@pinebushschools.org. All information is strictly confidential. Food baskets will be available for pick-up Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 21 and 22.
Anyone wishing to donate to the food pantry, which is open to anyone in the community, may send donations to their child’s school or drop off at the high school.
