Our kids play the same games played at the first Thanksgiving

Teresa Salvato’s first graders at Pine Bush Elementary went old school as they played some games that children played at the first Thanksgiving many years ago.

Two elementary age boys are at a table holding a ruler on the edge of it.

Two elementary students stand at a red line on the floor and toss pencils.

They learned that you need good eye/hand coordination and patience to play ring pin. Hiding the shell while playing the shell game with a partner was exciting and hard not to peek. Although they couldn’t use a real bow and arrow, they enjoyed throwing unsharpened pencils with the eraser side first at the wooden target.

Two elementary students stand on a multi-colored rug with sticks looking like they are fishing.

Three elementary girls sit at a table with plates in front of them sorting items onto the plates.

Hubbub was very enjoyable finding different combinations of five and earning points depending on the combination. Twirly top was great practice for spinning a top and counting using tally marks. Such fun and not a screen in sight!
