Engineers in training!

CES had an incredible session for its Engineering Club! Students in the club brought in all types of recycled materials – plastic bottles, soda cans, old CDs, fruit baskets, cardboard boxes – to make race cars!

Susan Corcoran, the club advisor, encouraged the students to think differently and try new things. The students worked collaboratively and creatively to build their vehicles during this after-school club.

This group consists of fourth-grade students. The fifth-graders completed their engineering session in the fall and the third-graders are next up in spring, all working on the recycled racers project.

Engineering Club students use the engineering design process to come up with their goal: ask, imagine, plan, create, improve.

This seven-week program saw such growth in the students. They went from design to concept to actual vehicle!
