At CES, diversity makes the difference!

Circleville Elementary School did an wonderfully creative project to show its diversity – it was the Puzzle Project and was a collaboration between art and library.

Each CES student completed their own unique puzzle piece. The puzzles represent how our school fits together and embraces everyone.

Each grade had its own topic in creating their puzzle. In fifth grade, students thought about diversity and what it means. Then they designed their puzzle pieces based on that. Fourth graders used the primary colors to mix their own unique skin tones for each puzzle piece. In third grade, students researched patterns from around the world and chose one they connected with to create their individual puzzle pieces. Second-graders made self-portraits on their puzzle pieces. The first-grade puzzle consisted of the student’s hands traced on paper and colored to match their own skin tone. In kindergarten and pre-K, students used analogous colors for each puzzle piece.

The results were amazing! And the lessons priceless.
