Incoming sixth-grade students at Crispell Middle School made the most of their orientation this week. They toured the building, met their teachers, learned about their schedules and a whole lot more.
Students and parents gathered in the gym but the kids didn’t stay long. They found their homeroom teacher from the list on the walls and went to their classrooms while parents stayed to listen to presentations from Principal Stephen Wilder and Assistant Principal Chris Mummery.
Mr. Wilder spoke about a number of topics from phones to backpacks to dignity and respect. He said the students will receive a planner with the student handbook included in it. He explained that the district’s mass notification system is currently SchoolMessenger but will be changed to ParentSquare before the holidays.
Meanwhile, the students were exploring their new school. They started in their homeroom and then switched to another teacher on their team, each discussing another aspect of middle school life. Students were encouraged to check their grades and assignments on SchoolTool. They went over locker etiquette and learned about clubs and activities. They got a lesson on organization and how being organized in their backpacks and lockers will make their lives so much easier. Time management, they learned, is so very important to their success.
The students also watched a video about how to open a lock, something that’s new to most of them! But not to worry, they will have time to practice once school starts.
The Crispell PTO was on hand asking parents to join them in helping to make their students’ experience in middle school a memorable one.
Enthusiasm. Excitement. Anticipation. It was all there at the Crispell orientation. We can’t wait for Tuesday and the beginning of this new chapter.
