The 2023 Christopher Bement Award is presented to Alex Tremper

Each year, the Pine Bush Central School District presents the Christopher Bement Memorial Award to a staff member who goes above and beyond in their service to the children of Pine Bush.

This year, the award was presented to Alex Tremper, a Pine Bush alumnus and 22-year district employee who serves as the district’s director of security.

Angela Wise-Landman, executive director of human resources, and Jayna McAteer, secretary to the superintendent, nominated Mr. Tremper. In their nomination letter, they note he is “the epitome of integrity.” He is honest, unapologetically himself, forward thinking and responsible for getting the district through the impact of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy and everything since.

“Mr. Tremper worked through every change in security protocols in schools over the last 20-plus years. He has always ensured that the Pine Bush Central School District stayed ahead of the curve and that we are the most prepared we can be at any given time,” noted the nomination letter.

In addition, Mr. Tremper is highly respected in the law enforcement community, locally, at the county level and statewide.

“He is the best of the best,” they concluded.

Mr. Tremper received his award at the convocation gathering at Pine Bush High School on Aug. 30, the first district-wide convocation held since 2019. The auditorium erupted with applause as Superintendent Brian Dunn announced his name.

The Christopher Bement Award was first presented in 1988, named in memory of the son of former Superintendent of Pine Bush Schools Frederick Norwood Bement, who served as superintendent in the district from 1969 to 1980. Christopher graduated in 1975 from Pine Bush High School and died in a car accident in California in 1987. The award is presented to a district staff member who goes above and beyond in service to the children of Pine Bush, as many of Christopher’s teachers did for him.
