Crispell’s Students Making A Difference (SMAD) club went to the Walden Humane Society recently to bring a donation and interact with the beautiful cats and dogs.
The students have been collecting deposit bottles and cans all school year in their program “Plastic for Puppies,” where they cash in the recyclables that will benefit the animals at the shelter. So far this school year, they have raised and donated $150! The kids plan to continue to collect and will do another donation at the end of the school year.
While at the society, the students were paired up with a cat or a dog to read to, participating in the Humane Society’s “Rescue Readers” program. This program allows school-aged children to read to the animals, giving the students the opportunity to work on their reading skills, and allowing adoptable pets time with children to brighten their days. It’s a big win-win!
There are many animals up for adoption at the humane society and many other volunteer opportunities, all of which can be found at the Walden Humane Society website.
