STEM is a real treat for CES fourth-graders

It’s a CES fourth-grade tradition!

The students take part in the Trick or Treat for STEM, where they go to all three classrooms and take part in different activities in each class that incorporate science, technology, engineering and math.

In Andrea Urmston’s class, the students worked on statistics using M&Ms. They separated the candies that came in their individual bag by color and determined the average number of each M&M candy by color, using Google sheets.

A group of fourth-grade girls sit around a table and smile. There are papers and multi-colored M&Ms on the table.

They headed over to Kaylin Bourke’s class to build bone bridges. They worked in teams to design the bridges, built only with Q-tips, pipe cleaners and tape. When complete, each bridge had to hold five candy pumpkins!

Two fourth-grade girls work on creating a bridge out of Q-tips, tape and pipe cleaners.

Next stop was Lisa Quick and Jaclyn Krauss’s classroom where the students created wings to fly. The goal was to have your wings fly the farthest. Design was important here! The students had a great time launching their wings to sail through the air!

Such great projects in a fun, collaborative environment!
