Family and friends gathered recently as three Pine Bush High School athletes signed their national letters of intent to play Division I athletics:
- Brady Fandl – Baseball – Fairleigh Dickinson University
- Kennedy Fisher – Gymnastics – Southeast Missouri State University
- Averie Klein – Track & Field – Binghamton University
The athletes were surrounded by their family members, friends and coaches to celebrate these milestones. On average, less than 2 percent of high school athletes go on to play Division I sports.
Congratulations Brady, Kennedy and Averie! We wish you all incredible success.
Brady Fandl – Fairleigh Dickinson University
Brady has been part of the Pine Bush baseball program since he was in seventh grade, according to his coach, Matt Boffalo. “He earned a spot on varsity in his 10th grade year as our second baseman,” said Coach Boffalo.
The following year, Brady led the team in almost every offensive category, batting .482, and earned a first team all-section award.
“Brady has demonstrated the characteristics of what a Pine Bush Varsity Baseball player should be,” said Coach Boffalo. “Hard work, dedication to the classroom and his teammates. We wish him all the best at Fairleigh Dickinson University, but we still have some unfinished business for his senior season this spring at Pine Bush.”
Chris Fandl thanked his son’s friends who talked Brady out of baseball retirement when he was just 8. Otherwise, this day may never have happened!
Brady is a scholar athlete and a member of the National Honor Society.
Kennedy Fisher – Southeast Missouri State University
Kennedy was nine months old when she started gymnastics in a Mommy and Me class. Smart move mom! Her favorite and best event is arguably the most difficult in the sport – beam. Kennedy said it shows both her graceful side as well as her power.
Kennedy has been a level 10 gymnast for four years. She is the New York state champion on beam and the regional beam and floor champion. She is a three-time national qualifier and ranked sixth in the country on floor and ninth in beam.
Kennedy brings that same determination to the classroom, excelling there as well. She is a member of the National Honor Society.
Kennedy trains at Galaxy Gymnastics in Orangeburg. Her coach is Jamie Winkler.
“Kennedy has many strengths,” said Coach Winkler. “She works hard and pays attention to the details, meaning she doesn’t just throw the skills, she performs them with great technique, form and elegance. She is a good teammate and a great leader. She’s a perfect role model for the younger girls in the gym.”
“It has been my dream since I was little to get a full athletic scholarship and compete at the D1 level,” said Kennedy, “and now I am finally getting to live out my dream.”
Averie Klein – Binghamton University
Averie has been on the track and field team since her freshman year, competing in pole vaulting, sprints, and hurdles. She will compete in pole vault at Binghamton.
“Averie excels at pole vaulting,” said Robin Renahan, coach of track and field here at Pine Bush. “She trains vigorously with our school team and the Hudson Valley Flying Circus. Averie consistently pole vaults higher than 10 feet and her best jump is 11-1. Averie has always been a kind teammate, works very hard, and has been willing to be a team player and give her best effort for the team.”
Averie doesn’t just excel in her sport. She is also a scholar athlete and a member of the National Honor Society.
Congratulations again to Brady, Kennedy and Averie! We are Pine Bush Proud!
