Presentations to students Jan. 7-9; parent presentation Jan. 8
The Pine Bush School District is hosting a social media event with Josh Ochs, a marketing specialist who will share tips to create a positive online presence for students as well as protect their safety.
Ochs travels the nation speaking to more than 30,000 students each year, sharing information about which apps are safe and which are not, giving examples of good and bad posts and providing a list of networks your kids need to be on to shine online.
Safety is of primary importance and Ochs will bring everyone up to speed on the latest apps and how to use them to put your best foot forward online.
For parents, this presentation will provide a proactive way to start a dialog with their kids about being smart on social media.
Students will benefit by learning that everything they post on social media will eventually be discovered by their parents, teachers, colleges and employers. Ochs wrote a book, “Light, Bright and Polite for Teens,” showing families the practical examples they can use to maintain a positive social media presence. His presentation for students will include:
- How to use Instagram and Twitter as a portfolio of accomplishments
- How to analyze your Google results to see what colleges will find
- Examples of good and bad posts that colleges will notice first
- Examples from real seniors that are using social media correctly
- Tips you can use to Google search like a college
- How to set up your accounts to own the first page of Google.
