A library on wheels

Since students have not been able to visit their school libraries as they usually do, librarians have gotten creative. They are bringing the library to the students.

A woman wearing a green sweater, mask, glasses and with short blonde hair holds a book open above a cart with many other books on it. A student with long blonde hair, mask and a blue sweatshirt looks at the open book.

At PBE, librarian Lisa Ruyack makes sure all students get their library experience. Toward the end of each day, she loads up her rolling library cart and makes the rounds. She stops by different grades on different days, with plenty to choose from for all of the students at that grade level.

A girl with dark curly shoulder length hair, wearing a multi-colored mask and a light colored shirt, holds a book she took from a cart.

On this particular day, fifth-grade students had their turn. It was Friday and many were returning books from the previous week and getting another for the upcoming weekend.

A woman wearing glasses, mask and a green sweater holds a scanner as she scans a book being held by a boy wearing a dark sweatshirt and mask.

“Students like to have a book in their hands,” said Ms. Ruyack. “And for some of our youngest students, this is their first library experience. And they love to choose a book all by themselves. They’re so happy to have that opportunity.”
