A special audience for our EJR readers

EJR had a couple of visitors recently who prompted lots of love and attention. Jack and Mocha, two certified therapy dogs, stopped by with their humans, Samantha and Wendy, to hang out in the library and enjoy some stories from a few very special readers.

A small white dog with a red vest lies on the floor next to a little boy with short black hair. The boy is on his knees and elbows reading a book.

Reading books to therapy dogs is a wonderful practice for readers. It helps students as they read aloud and it’s also great stress relief. The students just love the mellow nature of the dogs, putting them at ease. After reading their stories, each of the students sat and pet Mocha and Jack, talking about their own pets! They also got baseball-style cards with pictures and information about the two pups.

An elementary age girl sits on the floor petting a small white dog. She is smiling.

A boy with short dark hair smiles as he sits on a colorful rug. He is petting a large chocolate lab.

In addition to elementary schools, Mocha and Jack also visit colleges, hospitals and nursing homes, bringing their calming essence to all.
