Summer Enrichment Academies – 2023

Registration for the 2023 Summer Enrichment Academies begins Feb. 27.

Pine Bush High School will offer the following Summer Enrichment Academies in 2023:   

The Summer Enrichment Academies are offered to students in grades 9 through 11 to provide a focused, in-depth study of a particular subject. 

Please note that these academies are funded through grants, donations, and student tuition fees. 

All 2023 academies start on Monday, June 26.

  • The Advanced Manufacturing Academy runs through Friday, July 7.
  • The Aviation Academy, STEM Academy and Medical Academy run through Wednesday, July 12.
  • The Education Academy and Fine Art Academy run through Thursday, July 13.
  • The Leadership and Law Academy and College Leadership and Law Academy run through Friday, July 14.

The academies run from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. 

 

For more information or if you wish to attend but are having financial difficulties, contact Principal Aaron Hopmayer at 744-2031, ext. 3601, so that payment arrangements can be made.

Applications for all academies are available in the Pine Bush High School principal’s office and the counseling office.

Leadership and Law Academy 

This is a program centered on government, economics, and the criminal justice system. It is taught by social studies teachers, town of Crawford police officers, and members of the United States Army. This academy will satisfy
your Government and Economics credit.

This program will run from June 26 through July 14

Tuition: $275

Applications are available in the principal’s office and the counseling office.

College Level Leadership and Law Academy

(For students who have completed 10th and 11th grade)

This program runs 14 days, for approximately 105 hours of instruction. Upon successful completion, students earn one credit in Government and Economics. This program is taught by certified social studies teachers, town of Crawford police officers, and members of the United States Army. Guest speakers provide enrichment in their specific area of expertise.

By taking the college level course, you will earn three credits in Criminal Justice 101 through SUNY Sullivan. 

This academy will run from June 26 through July 14.

  • Tuition: $275
  • SUNY Sullivan Tuition: $219

Aviation Academy

In collaboration with Pratt & Whitney and Dutchess Community College, the Aviation Academy provides students with a basic knowledge of the equipment and operation of aircraft.

Students will learn the fundamentals of aviation including:

  • operation of airplanes
  • introduction to glider flight lessons
  • instrumentation
  • avionics systems
  • communications
  • meteorology
  • flight simulation

This program is taught by a certified flight instructor, a certified math teacher, and an array of aviation guest speakers. This course not only provides enrichment, but prepares students for a range of job opportunities in the aviation field. Students earn one elective math credit.

This academy will run from June 26 through July 12.

Tuition: $250

Fine Art Academy 

The objective of this academy is to afford high school students the opportunity to earn one elective art credit, while creating original artworks using a variety of materials. In this project-based course, students will explore traditional art-making techniques including black and white film photography, darkroom photo printing, painting and mixed media.

Students will discover the process of making a mixed media artwork that incorporates many different processes and materials. Students will learn the art of developing prints in the darkroom and how to alter both printed and painted images into unique works of art.

The Art Academy will provide a full day of instruction in an inspiring, art-making environment, where students are surrounded by other interested and motivated young artists.

Art Academy students have the opportunity to explore multi-step art making techniques that are not possible during the regular school year due to time constraints. 

 

This academy will run from June 26 through July 13.

STEM Academy 

The STEM Academy is an educational program designed to prepare
students for careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Students will look forward to working with rockets, coding, robotics, and learn about ecology, agricultural technology, and metrology just to name a few.

This academy will run from June 26 through July 12.

Tuition: $250

Advanced Manufacturing Academy 

The Advanced Manufacturing Academy is an educational program designed to give students an accelerated experience in learning CNC programming and operations. The program will be divided into a morning session and an afternoon session and students are only required to attend one session.

This academy will run from June 26 through July 6.

Tuition: $150

Applications are available in the principal’s office and the counseling office.

Medical Academy

The Medical Academy is designed to provide students with an introduction to the various fields of medicine. Physicians, professors of physical therapy, occupational therapy, physicians assistants, nurses and EMTs from Garnet Health Medical Center and Crystal Run Healthcare will provide students with first-hand knowledge of these fields and the opportunities that each presents.

Optional college credit is available. There will be an emphasis on musculoskeletal medicine, first aid and first response

This academy will run from June 26 through July 12.

  • Tuition: $325
  • Dominical College Tuition: $195
  • Field Trip to Mutter Museum and Franklin Institute, Philadelphia: $125

Applications are available in the principal’s office and the counseling office.

If you are interested in taking this course for college credit,  tuition is due the first week of the academy. Tuition is Non-Refundable.

(This is in addition to the academy fee and optional for students who have completed 10th or 11th grade.)

Education Academy

The Education Academy is an opportunity for students to earn one English elective credit through an introduction to education and teaching.

Students will gain an understanding of child and adolescent development, explore educational trends, plan and present lessons, and have opportunities to observe and work with students of varying grade levels.

Students interested in becoming teachers or working with kids as part of their future should take this opportunity to see if it is the right fit for you!

This academy will run from June 26 through July 13.

Tuition: $275
