It’s Autism Awareness Month! You may notice that many of our local businesses have colorful puzzle pieces, hearts and infinity symbols painted on their windows to help with the effort of spreading awareness of the disorder that approximately 1 in 36 children and millions of adults live with every day.
Pine Bush SEPTSA (Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association), partnered with Janice Barth and the Pine Bush High School National Art Honor Society to get the word out into our community in an incredibly beautiful way.
PBHS Art and Fabrication teacher Ellen Friel helped the project by creating the custom stencils used by the artists. Artists Jackson Hujus, Caroline Barth, Marleni Perez, Kamariah Walters-Wilks, Maya Oakes and Crispell sixth-grader and Pine Bush SEPTSA student member Aria Guillon, worked in collaboration with local businesses to make this project happen. Their talents are on display for all to see. Plus there is a QR code for folks to learn more about Pine Bush SEPTSA.
A big thank you to our artists and teachers for sharing their talents, and especially to our community business owners for being part of spreading the word about autism awareness and acceptance.
“Our community showed unity and support for this Autism Awareness project,” said Carmen Trabal, co-president of the PB SEPTSA. “Pine Bush SEPTSA is forever grateful.”
