The board will revisit the Jr. ROTC program application at a later date.

Ongoing Discussion: Strategic Plan

Superintendent Tim Mains provided the board with an overview of where we currently are regarding the Strategic Plan. To date, we have completed the easy part being the goal of each domain. The next piece is somewhat more difficult is figuring out how to measure that. In looking at the measures for this, at the administrative retreat this summer, they established OKRs, which represents Objectives and Key Results. Superintendent Mains provided an explanation of the “whys and hows” of OKRs.  OKRs were specifically designed for knowledge workers. He displayed a disclaimer during the presentation noting he was not an expert at OKRs and still learning the process himself. Administrators were beginning to use the OKR language and use that lingo with staff.  Supt. Mains reviewed the following OKR “Superpowers”

1)      Focus and Commit to Priorities

2)       Align and Connect for Teamwork

3)      Track for Accountability

4)      Stretch for Amazing

Objective:

  • The direction/goal/objective
  • Tell us where we are going
  • What we want to attain or accomplish

Key Results:

  • What do we need to do to get there
  • Always measurable
  • Either we did it or we didn’t

Supt. Mains provided the board with some sample OKRs prior to moving forward. The board reviewed the documents, at which time a conversation ensued between the superintendent and the board members. The board expressed their thanks for the superintendent’s efforts in this presentation, also stating the Strategic Plan is this is a living, breathing document and best suited for OKRs by the professional staff. Therefore, they requested the superintendent to work internally with administration and come up with key results for the objectives and report back to the board at an upcoming meeting. The board is supportive and anxious to fully understand the process. They will look forward to Mr. Mains’ subsequent update and they will provide their input at that time.
