Board recognizes three newly-minted Eagle Scouts

The Pine Bush Board of Education celebrated three amazing young men who recently earned the distinction of Eagle Scout. Pine Bush High School seniors Travis Coleman, Daniel Healy and Riley Kool, all part of Troop 37 here in Pine Bush, completed their respective projects, and even helped each other.

Each of the young men spoke a little bit about their project at the meeting .

Travis built 14 picnic tables for Wickham Woodlands Park in Warwick and handled all of the logistics.

“This was a great opportunity to help the community,” Travis said. “It was awesome to learn how to budget, raise money and save money for the project.

“This is a great accomplishment and I’m very happy with it,” he added.

Dan focused his project on his former elementary school right here in Pine Bush, Edward J. Russell Elementary. He coordinated the entire project of building an outside classroom in the courtyard at EJR.  He built eight 10-feet long benches that will accommodate up to 30 students, a motivating entry arch that reads “Reach for the Stars,” and a teacher’s podium.

“I’d like to thank EJR Principal Mrs. Halsey-Sproul for letting me do that project there,” said Dan.

Riley did his project for the Walden Humane Society. He extended their existing parking lot and covered it all in gravel. He leveled it and put in place logs as a barrier. He also put up signs for the society.

“They were excited and I was excited to help,” he said. “It looks great!”

Board of education member Ross Tompkins was especially proud, as he is one of the leaders of Troop 37.

“These are excellent young men who are going to go out into the world and make a big difference,” said Superintendent Brian Dunn.

Agreed, Mr. Dunn! Congratulations to all for their hard work and dedication to their community, their school and their troop.
