Classrooms around the district celebrated Pi Day on March 14. Pi, one of the most well-known mathematical constants, is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi will yield the result 3.141592654. It’s not exact. Pi is actually an irrational number – a decimal with no end and no repeating pattern.
At Circleville Elementary School, they went all out to mark Pi Day with whipped cream pies and some brave volunteers. But the event on March 14 couldn’t have happened without the Kids Heart Challenge back in February. Students at CES raised $6,284 for the American Heart Association – what a terrific job they did. As a reward, students who raised $200 or more had the opportunity to throw a pie in the face of one of the six staff volunteers.
Have a look at our video from the day!
Assistant Principal Joe Prestianni, fifth-grade teacher Sue Corcoran, school social worker Kelly Wallace, physical education teachers Janell Budd and Jake Izzo, and teaching assistant Michele Dreistadt prepared themselves for the onslaught of whipped cream from the students. Ms. Corcoran was pretty much covered from head to toe, leaving just her face to accept the whipped dessert.
The students were excited on this beautiful, warm pre-spring day. They cheered and chanted and roared with applause and laughter when one of their classmates smooshed the whipped cream pie in the face of one of the adults.
Ms. Corcoran, who is retiring at the end of this school year, had two students fill her face with pie. And at the end of the event, her fellow fifth-grade teachers, Robin Conklin and Sean Healy, along with Mr. Prestianni, gave her three more pies to the face!
A great time was had by all for sure! Happy Pi Day to all!
