Fifth-grade students at Circleville Elementary School engineered bone bridges on Halloween! Here’s how it went: They broke into groups and had 45 minutes to create their bridges using Q-Tips, four popsicle sticks, one foot of string, four clothes pins, one pipe cleaner and marshmallows. Of course the marshmallows were used as an adhesive to help keep the bridge parts together.
The students had to come up with a plan before they started building. They’ve studied the engineering and design process so they were excited to get this project underway.
Bridges were judged in three categories: strength, length and creativity. The team could choose one category in which to compete or all three!
There were some awesome designs and in the end many of these bridges held lots of weight, including a half-filled metal water bottle!
Great job by all!
