Moving up is such a special day! At CES, being a fifth-grader has many memorable events. Principal Kristin Slover talked about a few: learning about Mexico through Esperanza (as well as learning to crochet and create yarn dolls!), creating art portfolios, discovering composers and musicians, taking part in chorus and band, and so many more. There was a big celebration of Pi Day, a fun picnic and a super PTA dance. It added up to an incredible year, capping off their elementary school days.
Ms. Slover had some important words for the fifth-graders too.
“As you transition to middle school, have good character,” she said. “Be fair and caring. Be responsible and good citizens and follow the golden rule.”
Ms. Slover encouraged the students to be lifelong learners, to be kind and a good friend.
Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Amy Brockner, who knew these students when they were just little ones and she was CES principal, reminded them that their adventure doesn’t stop here. “Middle school is a new opportunity,” she said. “You are smart, strong and ready for this next step. So many people believe in you!”
Some special awards were given out, including the Triple C Award and the Comptroller’s Award.
The Triple C Award, recognizing the courage, character, and commitment of New York State’s outstanding students was given to Caleb Wilson and Addison Quatrale.
The New York State Comptroller’s Award is given to students who have shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership through involvement in activities that improve their school and community. Ingrid Twardon, Juliette Cassel, Carlo Marchese and Erick Paras received the award.
After the ceremony at CVMS, students and their families returned to CES to celebrate together. The awesome PTA provided refreshments and gifted each fifth-grader a binder and folder, each with the PB logo! Friends took pictures together and enjoyed their cupcakes on their special moving-up day!
Congratulations to all! Next stop: CVMS!
