Challenge accepted! PAK students ace the winter reading challenge

Pakanasink Elementary School Library Media Specialist Aubrey Zamonsky challenged her students in  grades pre-k through five to participate in the winter reading challenge over the winter break. The challenge was to read for 20 minutes daily and participate in at least 10 of the reading tasks provided. Students could choose from more than 30 different fun reading tasks – like wear a hat while you read, read to a stuffed animal, read with a family member and read in a tent, to name a few. All of these activities allowed families to get into the spirit of reading and see how much fun it is to read.

Art was involved too! The challenges were presented as marshmallows on a piece of paper. The students cut out the tasks they chose to do and pasted them on another paper that had a big mug of hot chocolate on it. Students pasted their marshmallows in their hot chocolate and then decorated their mug!

Ninety-two students participated in the reading challenge! All of the students who participated received a book of their choice to keep, and some hot cocoa and candy canes. The students can certainly cozy up with their book and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa this winter!

Ms. Zamonsky wants all our students to be lifelong readers. Congratulations to the following students who participated in the winter reading challenge.
