Clemmy’s special day at PBE

The students in Stacey Venzel’s fourth-grade class at PBE had a special visitor recently. Ms. Venzel’s guinea pig, Clemmy, came to visit for the day. It was her very first visit to school and she had a blast!

A woman stands in front of a class of fourth-grade students. There is a table next to her with fruit, carrots and celery on it, as well as a multi-colored guinea pig. There is a white board with all of the foods listed on it.

The class was excited since Clemmy was going to be included in the day’s activities. The students did a science experiment with Clemmy at the center of it – they hypothesized which food Clemmy would like best. The choices were: orange, lettuce, pumpkin, banana, grass, apple, celery, carrot and grape. (Spoiler alert – it was banana!)

A fuzzy guinea pig sits on a blue plaid table cloth on a small table. There is a banana near her, a small pumpkin and an orange.

The students took turns reading to Clemmy, who was a very good listener. They also wrote a collective personal narrative about the visit with her during the class’s writing block.

A boy with very short lighter hair, wearing a gray shirt sits with a guinea pig on his lap and a book open.

Of course, a day at school wouldn’t be complete without recess! It was a gorgeous day so Clemmy joined the students for outside recess where she enjoyed the attention and even more treats from her new friends.
