Communication is key to success. And that’s why Pakanasink Elementary School Principal Brian Breheny and Assistant Principal Colleen Delles invited their bus drivers from Birnie Bus to join them for a discussion about what’s expected of students on their buses.
Ms. Delles gave each driver a copy of the school’s bus expectations – behavior that is expected of all PAK students on buses. It includes things like no yelling, staying in assigned seats, facing forward, keeping their backpacks on either their laps or the floor, being respectful to the driver and others, no eating or
drinking, and much more.
“Many behavioral referrals are made by our drivers,” said Ms. Delles. “It is important for our drivers to know we support them. We want them to know what is expected of our students and to report any concerns to us in detail as soon as possible and we will follow up.”
“We will address issues immediately,” said Mr. Breheny.
All students have participated in assemblies describing proper bus behavior, Ms. Delles added.
The drivers gave excellent feedback and had good discussions during the presentation, which included coffee and bagels provided by the PTA.
“We acknowledge you folks have the hardest job,” said Mr. Breheny. “You have 66 to 72 students behind your back while you drive safely. We are working together and want you to know we support you.”
