Junie B. Jones is beloved to many early readers. The character, created by author Barbara Parks, is funny and lovable, and she encounters everyday situations that actual first-grade students do.
The Crispell Drama Club brought Junie B. to life in February, much to the delight of the children and adults in the audience. The show centered on Junie B’s first day of first grade. Many changes were heading her way, including new friends, a pair of glasses and a grown-up ally in the cafeteria.
The students at Crispell did an excellent job with the many unique characters in Junie B’s world. Robin Evans directed the show that starred 60 Crispell students on stage and 20 in the crew. Evans also had eight interns helping out, all former Crispell Drama Club participants who are now Pine Bush High School students.
Seventh-grader Grace Salsbury charmed as Junie B. There was also a familiar face playing the part of Gladys Gutzman, the friendly lunch lady – Crispell Principal John Boyle made a cameo, delighting his students and the crowds at the shows.
One special performance on Friday morning brought all first-grade students from throughout the district to Pine Bush High School for the show. They loved the captivating characters and fun-filled songs.
Bravo!
