The Life Skills class at Crispell recently finished up a unit on Ancient Chinese Culture and it culminated with a Chinese New Year celebration!
The students invited staff, parents and Crispell Principal John Boyle out for an educational luncheon at Larry’s Chinese Restaurant in Pine Bush. The class was welcomed by owner, Larry, who shared some history of Chinese New Year.
He did a presentation on his laptop and television of the Chinese New Year parade, pointing out various symbols such as red representing good luck and long noodles meaning good luck and long life.
Students were also able to ask and answer questions about the meaning behind the costumes in the parade, the Chinese zodiac calendar, the animals of their birth years, and what people do to get ready for the new year. It was a very educational, fun and delicious luncheon!
