Crispell Life Skills class learns about and celebrates Chinese New Year

The Life Skills class at Crispell recently finished up a unit on Ancient Chinese Culture and it culminated with a Chinese New Year celebration!

A middle school age kid turns toward the camera and smiles big. On the table in front of him is soup.

The students invited staff, parents and Crispell Principal John Boyle out for an educational luncheon at Larry’s Chinese Restaurant in Pine Bush. The class was welcomed by owner, Larry, who shared some history of Chinese New Year.

A young man in a red shirt and dark hair smiles. There is soup in front of him.

Three adults sit at a table of Chinese food smiling.

He did a presentation on his laptop and television of the Chinese New Year parade, pointing out various symbols such as red representing good luck and long noodles meaning good luck and long life.

A young woman holds a fortune from a fortune cookie out in front. Next to her is a boy smiling.

Students were also able to ask and answer questions about the meaning behind the costumes in the parade, the Chinese zodiac calendar, the animals of their birth years, and what people do to get ready for the new year. It was a very educational, fun and delicious luncheon!
