Crispell Students Making a Difference Club collects 1,900 food items for local pantries

The Crispell Students Making A Difference Club does just what the name says.a big box of cans, all different items. These altruistic students, along with their advisor, science teacher Allie White, have great plans to help their greater community.

For the past two weeks, the students held a food drive that doubled as a homeroom competition. Each can/item earned the homeroom one point. Decorating the collection box earned an additional 10 points. Delivering these heavy boxes to Ms White’s classroom earned a whopping 20 extra points!

Large cardboard boxes decorated for Thanksgiving. One had several turkeys traced from hands and colored brown yellow and orange. The other has a construction paper turke on the back and a sign on the front that says Happy Thanksgiving from Room 228 with a list of names on it.

The results aren’t in just yet but Ms. White reports that her group scored approximately 1,900 items, way more than in previous years when about 1,200 items were donated. All of this food is going to the food pantry at the Crawford Senior Center. And the homeroom that brought in the most items gets a pizza party. Wins all around!

Six middle school students stand in front of boxes and boxes of collected canned goods. Each is holding a can in their hand. On the right is their teacher, a woman, also holding a can. They all have masks on.

Looking forward, Ms. White said the club plans to do some holiday caroling at Over the Moon, and is hosting a candy cane sale at Crispell from Dec. 6-20. All the money collected will be donated to the Crispell Relay for Life team to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The group is very excited about their Plastic for Puppies event, something that will run through the end of the school year. They will set up collection boxes in the cafeteria and gather bottles and cans that have deposits. Ms. White will bring the containers to the new Bottle Depot in Circleville where the owner has said he will match all they collect! These donations will be split between the Middletown Humane Society and the Walden Humane Society.

Way to go Students Making a Difference – you surely are!
