There was a lot happening and much to be accomplished at the joint meeting of the CVMS Interact Club and STEAM Club recently as the two groups are banding together for a fundraiser.
On Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, the clubs will sell carnations during all lunch periods for $2 each. Students and staff may buy as many flowers as they like and either keep them, give them to a special person in school or bring them home for a special person there.
The clubs, which are advised by Nicole Bobby and Marcus Samerson, respectively, broke into four groups:
- Making Valentines for veterans
- Creating the Valentine’s Day fundraiser flyer
- Working on the details of the fundraiser
- Providing community service by hanging posters for the CVMS play throughout the building
Ms. Bobby and Mr. Samerson explained the tasks at hand at their meeting. The treasurers of the clubs handled the details of the fundraiser – deciding the cost of the carnations, developing sign-up sheets to get kids to volunteer to advertise and sell the flowers during the lunch periods. They figured out just how much money they could make depending on what they charged per flower.
Several students made 3-dimensional Valentines that will go to local veterans, along with cards made by other groups and classes in the school.
A handful of students worked together to create the fundraiser flyer that will be posted throughout the building, letting everyone know about the sale.
And finally, a group of Interact members went through the building to hang flyers for the upcoming musical production of Disney’s The Descendants. That is part of the community service arm of the group.
It was an incredibly productive meeting for the groups and the entire CVMS community has some gorgeous carnations to look forward to on Valentine’s Day!
