CVMS students learn about functions in coding

Sixth grade students who are taking Computer Lab classes with Robin Renahan at CVMS are learning about different coding shortcuts.  They recently learned about functions.

A middle school student stands at a round table in a library with robotics pieces . He is working on them.

In this lesson, students practiced building functions using their method of choice. They were able to build functions in their computer program using Cue Robots, LittleBits circuit pieces, or in Code.org or Scratch.  Students are excited to have these choices!

Two middle school students are at a round table in a library. One is leaning on the table and the other is standing working with something in his hands. There is a laptop on the table, a water bottle and other pieces of robotics materials.

A student sits on a soft blue chair working on a Chromebook.

The Cue Robots and LittleBits are more hands-on and interactive, while the Code.org and Scratch programs are very creative and challenging.

A small group of middle school students sit on the floor of a library. They have small robots they are working on.

Everyone was able to apply what they learned about functions in a way that best fit their needs.

At ground level, a small electronic robot moves down a shiny floor with students at one end directing it with a chromebook.
