District distributes nearly 1000 food boxes to community; sign up for next week’s program

Wednesday was the first distribution day for the five-day meal boxes and what a success it was! Our school nutrition department, along with 10 student volunteers, distributed upwards of 1,000 meal boxes, each containing fresh fruit and produce, cereal bowls and cereal bars, a loaf of bread, a block of cheese, peanut butter, a half-gallon of milk and a pint of chocolate milk for each child 18 or under in the family.

Stacks of boxes that say Fresh Produce are on crates and there are women working handing out the boxes.

The program is open to all children 18 and under. We encourage families to sign up by the Friday before each pick-up date to ensure that enough meal boxes are available. Click here for the sign-up link. You can sign up for both remaining distributions with one click. Availability without signing up in advance is not guaranteed.

A high school boy smiles as he pushes a car with boxes of produce on it and blue bags on the bottom of the cart. There is a woman and two boys walking with him.

Caitlin Lazarski, director of school nutrition, said the pick-up went very well. She thanked the volunteers who were so incredibly helpful getting boxes to families’ cars and posted on social media for interested families to come and pick-up leftover meal boxes on Thursday.
