Voting and voting rights are the foundation of our democracy. Our nation is stronger when everyone has a voice in the political process. It is with that sentiment in mind that our district promotes voter registration in Pine Bush High School.
This year, through the Orange County Board of Elections, Pine Bush welcomed Ann Toner of the League of Women Voters, to give students 16 and older the opportunity to register. Over two days, Ms. Toner, who is no stranger to Pine Bush High School as she served as assistant principal there, and her partner Judy Peterson, registered nearly 100 new voters!
They had help, of course, with members of the National Honor Society walking around the cafeteria talking to their friends about the value of registering. Those who are 16 could register in advance and will be able to vote when they are 18.
This is all part of the district’s policy to promote voter registration to its students. The registration event is an annual happening. Shout out to PBHS English Department Chairperson Kelly Cooke for coordinating the event.
And don’t forget to let your voice be heard – vote!
