District students to participate in county-wide art show Saturday, Feb. 1

Many of our district students will have artwork showcased this Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Galleria Mall, for the “Arts Builds Confidence” exhibition.  It’s sponsored by the Orange County Arts Council and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sixteen students from Pine Bush High School will have their work on display, while many middle and elementary school students’ artwork will be shown digitally throughout the day. Participating in the county-wide Arts Builds Confidence exhibition offers students numerous benefits, according to Diane Trad, the Art Department chairperson.

a slide with nine different pieces of artwork on it. The artwork was done by high school and middle school students.

“This event provides a platform for students to showcase their artistic talents to a wide audience, including peers, educators and community members, fostering pride in their creative achievements and boosting their confidence,” Ms. Trad said. “Having their work displayed in a public setting allows students to receive recognition and encouragement, inspiring them to pursue their artistic passions further.”

The exhibition highlights the value of art education and promotes continued support for arts programs in schools, Ms. Trad continued.

“By engaging with the broader community, students gain exposure to diverse perspectives, deepening their understanding of art’s role in society,” she said. “For the artists present at the event, the chance to interact with visitors and explain their work builds communication and public speaking skills, fostering confidence that extends beyond their art.”

At the end of the day, a People’s Choice Award will be presented to an artist based on a public vote, adding an element of friendly competition to the event. All are encouraged to come out and support our wonderful artists.
