Fifth-grade students at Edward J. Russell Elementary School had a terrific day for their moving-up ceremony on Wednesday morning, June 14.
Parents, guardians and family members were excited as the students walked toward the large white tent where the ceremony would take place.
The soon-to-be middle school students received plenty of sage advice from teachers and administrators. Superintendent Brian Dunn congratulated the students on all they’ve achieved and challenged them to set their goals high in middle school and beyond.
Awards were given out for art, music, band, chorus, library, physical education, citizenship and academics.
The New York State Comptroller’s Award is given to students who have shown academic excellence and the potential for leadership through involvement in activities that improve their school and community. Ciara Giannini, Jackson Gerspach, Donald Regan and Gwendolyn Loennecker received the award.
The Triple C Award, recognizing the courage, character, and commitment of New York State’s outstanding students was given to Gavin Garcia, Michaela Mataraza, Seamus Varley and Madyson Atwell.
Madyson Atwell received the Jeanne S. Theis Memorial Award.
After the festivities, the PTA provided refreshments as the students gathered, taking photos with their friends, family and teachers.
Now, it’s on to Crispell!
