Students in Ellie Cassidy’s and Corrine Vertescher’s kindergarten classes at EJR learned about chef and humanitarian Jose Andres during Hispanic Heritage Month. They decided to be like him and collect items for birthday cake kits for those in need in the community. They did a great job of it!
This week, they finished the project by bringing their birthday kits to the Pine Bush High School Food Pantry.
The students were greeted by Katie Carson-Decker, a social worker at the high school who runs the food pantry, and students from the Positivity Project Club. “EJR students were generous in giving us Birthday Kits for families to take home to celebrate birthdays,” said Ms. Carton-Decker. Each kit included cake mix, frosting, candles and a can of Sprite. Who knew that without eggs, oil or water, you can mix in a can of Sprite to make a cake? So awesome!
In turn, the high school students thanked the EJR students with an “I made a difference today” sticker as they toured the food pantry.
Goodness comes in many forms at any age!
