Everyone has a story

EJR third-grade students became authors recently!

Students chose a “small moment” in their lives to write about. They even drew illustrations. There was a birthday, a trip to a water park, and a soccer ball that was never to be seen again. There was even the story of a chicken attack!

Students learned about personal narratives – stories about themselves. Part of the assignment was to use bigger words, for their stories to have a beginning, a middle and an end. They developed their characters and created a vivid setting. They also learned about descriptive language and included dialogue, using quotation marks.

When the assignment was complete, each student read his or her story aloud to their class. Not only did the students learn about constructive writing, everyone learned something new about their classmates.
