Fire Safety Week is a highlight for our elementary students

It’s Fire Safety Week! Our wonderful volunteer firefighters from throughout the area presented to our elementary students and emphasized the importance of knowing what to do in case of a fire emergency at their home.

Members of the Bloomingburg and Circleville Fire Departments showed the students at Circleville Elementary School some of the unique equipment on their vehicles. The students learned how firefighters break through doors and roofs, that different tankers carry different amounts of water, and that their gear weighs about 100 pounds!

The firefighters stressed that everyone must know at least two ways to get out of their house or any room they are in. Have a meeting place too so that all in the household know that everyone is out safely.

The older students had the opportunity to be in the smoke house, where there was a small living room, kitchen and bedroom. The firefighters reinforced to them to stay low to the ground when getting out of a smoky place, since the cooler, clean air settles to the ground as the smoke and heat rise.

Thank you to our incredible community volunteers who take the time to spread their wisdom to our young students to ensure they are safe in difficult situations.
