Fire Safety Week reinforces safety habits and teaches new ones

It’s Fire Safety Week! Our elementary students have been receiving visits and instruction from our wonderful Pine Bush Fire Department and Circleville Fire Department volunteers all week long. It’s been incredibly informative, and the students are inquisitive and engaged.

A line of pre-K students on a sidewalk stand by a red and white fire engine. It's a sunny day and the sky is blue.

The theme for this year’s Fire Safety Week is “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.” The students were very impressive in their knowledge of fire safety – having a pre-determined meeting spot out in front of the structure, calling 911, not going back into the building for any possessions or pets, sleeping with their bedroom door closed and what to do if their smoke detector goes off through the night.

A white trailer with gold and blue letters on the side that says Pine Bush Fire district Smoke House on the side. There is a line of elementary students waiting to get in. The ones in the front are on their hands and knees to go through the smoke house.

A firefighter in a navy blue shirt stands in front of a red fire truck that says Pine Bush 228 on it. He is pointing to a student with her hand up. There are lots of students in front of him.

The PBFD volunteers were inspired by how much the older students knew about fire safety and their desire to learn more. The students, in return, were grateful for the lessons!
