It’s Fire Safety Week! Our elementary students have been receiving visits and instruction from our wonderful Pine Bush Fire Department and Circleville Fire Department volunteers all week long. It’s been incredibly informative, and the students are inquisitive and engaged.
At CES, Captain Jay Knosp and Firefighter David Wathe explained to the students that their company has five main trucks, including two engines, which carry 1,250 gallons of water each; a rescue truck; a ladder truck with a 100-foot ladder; and a tanker truck that holds 2,000 gallons of water.
The theme for this year’s Fire Safety Week is “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.” The students were very impressive in their knowledge of fire safety – having a pre-determined meeting spot out in front of the structure, sleeping with their bedroom door closed and what to do if their smoke detector goes off through the night.
Students in grades three, four and five participated in a fire safety poster contest and the winners for each grade were presented with gift cards.
