The Pine Bush High School First Aid Club hosted its blood drive on Thursday, March 13, collecting 27 units of blood for the local community.
Club advisor Stephanie DeVries and several of her club member were posted at the front of the new gym checking donors in and providing snacks and drinks after donations.
As is often the case, there were several students donating for the very first time. Patrick Curran and Noah Edley are both juniors and this was their first donation.
“I thought it would be worse than it is,” said Noah while donating.
London Fields, also a junior, donated for the first time at the blood drive held earlier in the school year. “The first time wasn’t so bad,” she said.
Giving blood is safe. The whole process takes about an hour, from the start of paperwork to finishing your snack. Donors must be at least 16-years-old with a signed parental consent form, must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. You may donate every eight weeks. And don’t worry – your blood replenishes within 24 hours! Just be sure to drink lots of water. The benefit is immense – one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
Great job First Aid Club! A big thank you to all the staff and students who gave the gift of life.
