Giving – and getting – some love from Mocha and Jack at PAK

Students at Pakanasink had the opportunity to meet some pretty special visitors recently as Miss Wendy and Miss Sam brought their friends Mocha and Jack, certified therapy dogs, to visit with the students.

A woman in a red polo shirt and jeans with shoulder-length blonde hair holds a microphone in one hand and a red leash with a mid-size brown dog. Another woman is to her left, also in a red shirt and dark pants, holding a small white dog. Both are wearing masks.

The students got to learn all about the pups, how they travel to different schools helping kids communicate and improve their reading. Mocha and Jack don’t read of course but students like to read to them. They are part of READ – Reading Education Assistance Dogs. These dogs are great listeners – they love to hear students read to them! And students respond because there is really no pressure in reading to the dogs – they are very attentive and don’t care if you stumble over a word. It builds confidence in kids.

A group of five older elementary school girls sit on a bench and pet a small white dog who is being held by a woman with short light hair. The girl penning him is smiling.

The students had a great time with their visitors and give a big thank you to Miss Wendy and Miss Sam for sharing Mocha and Jack with them.

A group of seven elementary girls sitting on facing benches pet a mid-size brown dog. They are all smiling at him. There are adults around them.

Nine elementary students kneel and stand in two rows. On either side of them is a woman with a red shirt either holding a leash with a dog or holding the dog.
