The Tri-County Youth Partnership (TCYP) Club, which meets most weeks at Pine Bush High School and is a program from the Tri-County Prevention Coalition, hosted an after-school journaling session open to all students.
In addition to the TCYP members, students from the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) , Interact, Wellness and First Aid clubs attended and learned about the benefits of journaling and its different types.
Led by Alayne Eisloeffel, program director and project coordinator for the Tri-County Prevention Coalition and Youth Partnership, the students took some time to decorate and write in their new journals. They discussed some prompts to get them started, and the benefits of journaling on their mental health and even their physical health.
Studies have shown that journaling, even for just 15 minutes a day, can result in a reduction of stress and anxiety, depression and hostility. It can give a greater sense of meaning and better health. Various studies have found that people who journal have fewer doctor visits in the following half year, and reduced symptoms of chronic disease like asthma and arthritis. It can even help with sleep! In a word, journaling can be cathartic.
Write away everyone!
