Juneteenth, Chromebook return, and a message about sexual misconduct

Hello all Pine Bush families and staff,

Tomorrow is Juneteenth, our newest federal holiday.  Pine bush already has incorporated this holiday into our student calendar for next year.

With only a week left in the school year, tonight I wanted to share our plans for collecting Chromebooks, the charger cables, and cellular wireless hot-spots.  I also want to share news about our continued efforts to confront and respond to instances of sexual misconduct.  Let’s start with Chromebooks:

  • The high school has already sent its message about Chromebook collections from both in-person and virtual students next week.
  • Elementary and middle schools will collect Chromebooks from in-person students in classrooms on the last day that the student attends classes. For most students that should be next Friday morning, June 25.
  • Elementary and middle schools will collect Chromebooks from their virtual students on Friday afternoon, June 25.
  • If you have children in multiple schools, you can return the Chromebooks and charging cables for all of your children at one location, preferably next Friday afternoon, June 25.
  • When you come, you will have to show picture ID, like a drivers license, and report the names and schools of the children whose Chromebooks and chargers you are returning.
  • If you borrowed a hot-spot, you should return that at the same time along with its charging cable.
  • If you are unable to return your Chromebook and charging cables next Friday, we will be setting up a drop off location at one of the north end schools (Crispell, EJR or PBE) at different times during the following week – the week of June 28. We will have some after-hours options available in that week after school ends as well. I will be announcing those options late next week or on Sunday, June 27. We start construction at CES, CVMS, PAK and the high school as part of our Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) the week of June 28, which is why the drop off that week will have be at one of the other schools.
  • Please be advised that failure to return district property could impact your child’s access to other district programs or benefits.

Finally, I met this week with a group of students about sexual misconduct at the high school.  After meeting with these articulate young women, I wrote a statement that I hope will encourage folks to report this misbehavior whenever they experience it or hear about it.  The statement is on our website and attached to the email version of this message (if you get those).  I will be sending it to all of our secondary students as well.

Have a pleasant evening and a great Fathers Day weekend,
