Let’s hear it for our summer readers!

Each summer, students from Pine Bush Elementary School are challenged to read for 40 days. This year, an amazing 85 students completed the challenge over the summer!

It’s PBE Library Media Specialist Lisa Ruyack’s way to keep students engaged through the summer months.

A sea of elementary children - about 65 - all holding blue certificates for the reading they did in the summer. There is an adult way in the back and another on the right. They are in a window-filled library.

“My professional goal has always been to increase reading outside the school day,” said Mrs. Ruyack.

She has been very successful! This summer’s total of 85 participants is up from last year’s 54.

The challenge is for students in kindergarten through grade 2 to read for 20 minutes and students in grades 3 through 5 to read for 30 minutes each day for 40 days.

These amazing students took up the challenge and were rewarded with a certificate, 3D puzzle, a free book and magazine of their choice.

“I always tell our students that readers are leaders,” said Mrs. Ruyack. “The more you learn about the world through books the more prepared you are to lead it one day. We are so proud of our readers.”

Way to go PBE!
