Megan Collins honored with Hudson Valley Magazine Teachers Appreciation Award

Hudson Valley Magazine has recognized EJR first grade teacher Megan Collins with a Hudson Valley Teachers Appreciation Award.

Collins has been teaching for three years at EJR and her dedication gets noticed.

“She goes above and beyond for her students every day and has risen to the challenge of teaching in COVID times,” is what her nomination to the magazine stated.

It’s not lost on Principal Elizabeth Halsey Sproul either.

“Megan is a very caring and committed teacher,” said Halsey Sproul. “She has an incredibly positive energy. She is warm and supportive, and she works so well with our families, which is so important during these times. I am so happy for this recognition for her.”

“I love how supportive the EJR community is and our focus on social-emotional learning,” Collins said. “There are so many things to love about my students: their creativity, their enthusiasm, their silliness, their growth, but most of all, I love how much they have taught me about resiliency. This pandemic has not been easy on anyone, but my students always show up with smiles on their faces, ready to rise to the challenge.”

A Hudson Valley Magazine editor contacted Collins in January to let her know she had been selected as one of the teachers for the awards. She was thrilled that someone nominated her – it was done anonymously – especially during this difficult time when there is so much uncertainty.

“This nomination was such a sweet surprise,” said Collins. “As we all know, teaching during a pandemic has been quite the journey and it feels wonderful to be recognized.”

The magazine asks its readers for nominations for the Teacher Appreciation Awards. The article announcing the award winners appears in the March issue of Hudson Valley Magazine.
