Good evening
I wanted to share some great news for all Pine Bush families about our free meals for kids program, which started when we closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
#1 The Pine Bush Central School District will continue to provide breakfast and lunch meals at no cost for all area children age 18 and under at our “Children’s Meal Stops.” Since school is over, our meals program was set to end this week, but we applied for and received a grant that will allow us to continue handing out those meals for kids through the middle of August. The last date for distribution will be Thursday, Aug. 13.
We’ll continue to distribute two days’ worth of meals on Tuesdays and three days’ worth of meals per child on Thursdays this week and next. However, starting on June 30, we’ll be distributing three days’ worth of meals on Tuesday and four days’ worth of meals on Thursdays! In addition, we’ll also make a shift beginning on June 30 with meal distribution sites. That’s when we will switch from three locations to two: one on the north end of the district and one on the south. The northern stop will be Pine Bush High School, located at 118 Rte. 302, and on the south end of the district, all distributions will be from the Family Church, located at 510 M & M Road in Middletown. Since CVMS is getting extensive roofing work this summer, we had to take that site out of use starting June 30.
Distribution days, times and procedures will otherwise remain the same: Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., with the drive-through style service. Click here for further information.
#2 Our Food Service Department is the recipient of a $20,000 Coronavirus Emergency Relief grant from Share Our Strength’s “No Kid Hungry Campaign” which is a national organization working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world. This grant is to support our critical work and continued efforts to provide nutritious meals to children in response to the coronavirus emergency. There were numerous applicants and after hearing about our school community efforts to alleviate food insecurity and hunger, we were awarded this grant. Here’s a link to their website, if you want to know more about this organization.
Have a great evening!
Tim O. Mains, Pine Bush Superintendent
